proudly presents the

Western Side By Side Shotgun Championship and Gathering

October 1

at

Camanche Hills Hunting Preserve

VENUE:  The Camanche Hills Hunting Preserve is a 1500-acre private club on the shore of Lake Camanche.  It has 3 sporting clay courses, two 5-stands, trap, skeet & a grouse butt flurry.  The clubhouse has breakfast & lunch menu.  Gun engraver, Charles Lee and gun maker, Dale Tate are on the premises.  The club has hosted many fine shooting events, i.e. Gold medal concours, Calif. Sporting Clay Championships, etc.

TARGETS:  100 sporting clay targets.  Shooting will simulate hunting as much as possible.  The contest will encompass gun handling, gun knowledge & a wide range of shots.   The course will be designed for an open choke and a tighter choke, i.e. (imp. Cyl. & Mod.).  Five people per squad will be picked at random by shoot master.  Any tie will be shot off at 5-stand (sudden death).  Any bore size may be used with a maximum of 1-1/8 oz. Shot of #7-1/2 or smaller.  For SxS sporting clay rules click on:  Word format or .pdf format.

GATHERING:   This event is more than the championship shoot, as noted in the prize category.  Three of the trophies will be won with the Lewis system of classes.  The Calif. SxS Society emphasizes the display of guns and we bring our favorite side-by-side shotguns and rifles to share with other like-minded participants.  Last year, at a much smaller “Gathering”, we had 100 side-by-side guns on display.  We expect this years Championship Gathering will far exceed that number.  With the display of many fine doubles, it enhances the appreciation & camaraderie of participants. If you have an interest in doubles shotguns & rifles, you won’t want to miss this event.

PRIZES:  The silver trophies were made in England expressly for this championship and winners will retain them.  Only one trophy (or class) can be won per entrant.  The trophies will be engraved with the event title and Charles Lee will engrave the names of winners.  There will be lots of door prizes donated by NRA & others.

FEES.  There is a $25.00 admittance fee for SxS Society members, reduced to $20.00 if you bring five or more guns for display; $40.00 for non members and wives are invited to attend free.  100 targets cost $33.00, to be paid in clubhouse

Western Side By Side Rifle Championship

OCTOBER 8, 2005

SACRAMENTO VALLEY SHOOTING CENTER

15501 Meiss Road, Sloughhouse, Ca. 95683

(916) 354-9668

In 1999 the first major double rifle championship in the United States was held in Millbrook, NY.  That annual match is part of The Vintage Cup program – a grand event conducted by The Order of Royal Edwardian Gunners – aka The Vintagers (www.vintagers.org).  In 2002 the first Western Double Rifle Championship was held in conjunction with the Gold Medal Concours d’Elegance of Fine Guns (GMC) at Rock Springs Ranch in Paicines, California (www.rockspringsranch.com).  That match was held again in 2003 and 2004 as part of the GMC.

This year, the Western Double Rifle Championship will be held at the Folsom Shooting Club’s Sacramento Valley Shooting Center in Sloughhouse, California.  The principal sponsors of the match are B. Searcy & Co (www.searcyent.com) and the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (www.nra.org).

The competition is open to all side-by-side double rifles.  There will be a single course-of-fire and a single champion.  Lesser-recoiling rifles will be fired from a greater distance as a method of handicapping.  How that distinction is made can be found in the course description.  The course-of-fire will require a minimum of 14-rounds and that the competitors move and reload.  It is designed to be difficult and realistic.

Registration will begin at 8:00am on October 8.  The match will begin at 8:30am.  Registration will end at 3:45pm.  Prizes will be awarded to 5th place. The match champion will receive a beautiful (and very large) silver trophy which will be his or hers to keep.

The match fee is $25.  A competitor may re-enter the match with a rifle of a different power rating for $20.  A complete course description and rules can be downloaded in Word format or .pdf format.
